BEARD IN MIND by Penny Reid Review

BEARD IN MIND by Penny Reid

Release Date: August 1, 2017

All’s fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.
Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone’s favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston’s charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever.
She mumbles to herself, but won’t respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won’t shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words.

Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life.

The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora’s box of complexity—exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity—and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean missing out on what matters most.

My Review

I waited on pins and needles for Cletus’s story (Beard Science) and I’ve got to say he didn’t disappoint, but what I wasn’t expecting was how much I would adore Beau in Beard in Mind. I mean, he’s Duane’s twin and we’ve already read Duane’s story so as much as I was interested in reading Beau’s story, I really wasn’t expecting to fall so hard.

He’s real. Honest to goodness I think these Winston brothers are real. Penny Reid creates memorable characters that are just as real and flawed as the rest of us mere mortals. Real issues, real problems, real love – it’s all right there in the pages and I found myself enamored. Enamored with the story, the writing, and the characters. There’s no over the top storyline to pull you from the words and leave you wanting, Shelly and Beau’s story is beautiful and honest and will stay with me for a long time.

Shelly is this brilliant character with so many facets and it’s interesting to watch the evolution of her relationship with Beau, and also her relationship with her brother. The peripheral characters play just as much a part of their story as the central characters and it’s an interesting dynamic. I feel like there are more twists in this story than the others and somehow I became even more invested in Beau and Shelly’s outcome.

Be prepared to swoon, laugh, and cry while reading Beard in Mind by Penny Reid. As a bonus, the timeline runs parallel with Cletus and Jennifer’s story. It’s another fantastic addition to the Winston Brothers Series and I can’t wait to see what the author has up her sleeve next.
