Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters Review

Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters

Synopsis

A New Adult Dark Contemporary Romance, not suitable for people sensitive to grief, slavery, and nonconsensual sex. A story about finding love in the strangest of places, a will of iron that grows from necessity, and forgiveness that may not be enough.

“My life was complete. Happy, content, everything neat and perfect.
Then it all changed.
I was sold.”

Tess Snow has everything she ever wanted: one more semester before a career in property development, a loving boyfriend, and a future dazzling bright with possibility.

For their two year anniversary, Brax surprises Tess with a romantic trip to Mexico. Sandy beaches, delicious cocktails, and soul-connecting sex set the mood for a wonderful holiday. With a full heart, and looking forward to a passion filled week, Tess is on top of the world.

But lusty paradise is shattered.

Kidnapped. Drugged. Stolen. Tess is forced into a world full of darkness and terror.

Captive and alone with no savior, no lover, no faith, no future, Tess evolves from terrified girl to fierce fighter. But no matter her strength, it can’t save her from the horror of being sold.

Can Brax find Tess before she’s broken and ruined, or will Tess’s new owner change her life forever?

My Review

Oh My Goodness! Tears of Tess by Pepper Winters is such a darkly intense, emotional read that I had to stop reading a few times and catch my breath. It is incredibly intense and the characters are dark and haunting.

While on vacation with her boyfriend, Tess is abducted and sold into slavery.

Both Tess and her new owner are broken, each in their own way and this is a story of finding yourself even in the midst of losing everything you know. I don’t really want to give away the plot or the story, but suffice it to say that this book is an amazing read. It is incredibly well written and so easy to get lost inside the story of hope, sadness, and maybe even a sort of love.

Some of the scenes are brutal, physically and mentally, but it is necessary to the storyline. We watch as Tess realizes who she is while enduring unimaginable things. You will find yourself questioning why (a lot) and how this can happen to someone so young (or anyone for that matter). You may find yourself empathizing with her owner and once his story comes out, it will make more sense.

Tears of Tess was the most intense read I’ve read this year and I may need to take a few days off from reading to move forward. I see Tess when I close my eyes and feel the emotional pain of her owner, Q.

I’m looking forward to the follow-up book, Quintessentially Q so that I can see what happens next.
